Marty Burlsworth Family and Early Life
Today, Marty still lives in Harrison, which is in the middle of the Ozark Mountains and where he was born and raised. Born to Leo and Barbara Burlsworth, he was the oldest of their three boys.
His dad played music professionally and could be seen at places in and around the Twin Cities.
Marry’s family moved to Osage Beach, Missouri, when he was about 3 years old. It was a vacation and entertainment place like Branson is now.
At that venue and Lee Mace’s Ozark Opry at the Lake of the Ozarks in Missouri, his father played music.
In order to get his dad to join the Ozark Opry, Mace got his dad a new banjo at a Harrison music shop because his dad couldn’t afford a good one.
For example, Marty says, “He was a great musician.” His show was the same every night for two months, so he got tired of it.
However, Marty loved growing up in Harrison, even though his family was having trouble. The man says, “It was great.” “The town was really small.” Everyone and everything was on foot.
Marty Burlsworth Today
He has thought about that day over and over again in all the years since his younger brother died too soon and tragically. “Worst day ever” for Marty Burlsworth was April 28, 1999.
That day, senior quarterback for the Arkansas Razorbacks Brandon Burlsworth died in a car accident on his way home to Harrison from Fayetteville.
He was getting ready to become a starting offensive lineman for the Indianapolis Colts after being chosen into the NFL just 11 days before. The man was 22 years old.
Marty says, “It was bad, bad, bad,” remembering how shocked and devastated he, his family, and other people were after the accident.
The Brandon Burlsworth Foundation, which was started by Marty and Vickie, will carry on Brandon’s work even after his death.
Now, almost 25 years later, at age 62, Marty is president and CEO of the foundation.
The foundation’s website says it is a Christian group whose goal is “to support the physical and spiritual needs of children, especially those who have limited opportunities.”
That is, Marty is in charge of a foundation that helps kids like him. Oh, and Brandon.
Marty Burlsworth Personal Life
Marty had lunch at the nearby McDonald’s one day in 1981. He usually drove through to order, but he chose to go inside instead. It was his hope to see a young worker woman who had caught his eye.

With three years less experience than Marty, Vickie thought about studying accounting at Harding University in Searcy.
